the basic causes of this war are intention of British to revive their pride by defeating Tipu Sultan,strengthing the position of Tipu Sultan by internal reforms and attempts of Tipu Sultan for the help of france and Turkey...Triple Alliance by the British with Nizam and Marathas against Tipu in 1790, Attacking Tipu Sultan against Travancore in April 1790...

The Anglo - Mysore wars were the series of wars fought between the Britiahers and Mysore Sultans. Prior to the completion of term of Robert Clive. British wanted to annex Mysore. Mysore was one of the famous independent province during those days. Mysore Sultan Hyder Ali and his dynamic son Tipu Sultan challenged Britishers. This led to the four Anglo - Mysore wars.

1st Anglo - Mysore war : This war was fought in from 1967 - 1969. In this war Hyder Ali faced a serious defeat from the British. Both accepted to give back their territories they annexed. The war was ended with the Treaty of Madras.

2nd Anglo - Mysore war: This war was fought from 1780 -84. Beginning of this war Hyder Ali with 20000 army fought against British. But he died in the middle of war due to cancer. Tipu Sultan signed a peace treaty of Manglore.

3rd Anglo - Mysore war : This war was fought because British disobeyed the treaty of Manglore. Tipu also did not send the British soldiers as per the treaty. In this war Tipu Sultan faced a serious deafeat. where he gave the territories to British. In this war the power of Tipu was decreased. It was fought from 1790-92.

4th Anglo - Mysore war: This was fought in between 1798-99. Cornwallis wanted to finish Tipu. Britishers disobeyed the treaty of Srirangapatnam hence this battle was fought. In this battle Tipu was killed.
