The Condition of Indian textile Industries:
- There was a growing demand of Indian cotton fabric in Britain during 18th and 19th century but due to 1700 Calico Act which was imposed by the parliament banned most varieties of cotton products from India.
- There was growing uncomfortness with the woollen that people of England were facing since they need to wear them both in summers and winters. But raw material required for cotton textile was unavailable over there.
- Hence there was growing import of cotton fabrics from India which led to development of Indian textiles. There were also demands of coloured or printed fabric for the purpose of wearing to curtain or sofas developments.
- Parliament started to see competition from imported fabrics and a growing threat, decline of home textile industries which ultimately led to imposition of Calico act that banned imports of Indian fabrics.
