- In many cities rallies were organised. Workers had gone on strikes in workshops and railways and many of the shops closed down.
- Means of communication such as Telegraph and Railways were disturbed and the government took many actions to suppress the movement.
- Mahatma Gandhi was not allowed to enter Delhi. Lots of local leaders had been picked up from Amritsar.
- The police in Amritsar had fired upon a peaceful procession causing widespread attacks on post offices, banks and railways. This event had happened on 10 th April.
- At last the infamous Jallianwala Bagh Massacre had taken place due to the Rowlatt act. General Dyer took command and martial law had been imposed.
