After being under British rule for more than 200 years Indians realized the importance of Democracy, justice, peace, equality. They had to improvise these ideas in the constitution.
The making of constitution for a huge and diverse country like India, was not easy affair. At that time the people of India were emerging from the status of subjects to that of citizens.
The country was born through a partition on basis of religious differences. This was a traumatic experience for the people of India and Pakistan
