what were the difficulties in writing manuscripts ?

it was not possible to generate alot of manuscripts by hand.

As the amount of readers were much in the past years but no source printing before the printing era.

alot of writing may results malot of mistakes.

and the manuscripts were not safe as the rats may ate them.So, later they started to give larger borders to books.
