It created a gulf or gap between the educated and uneducated as the former had usually adopted the western life-style.

Primary schools suffered because of the lack of the funds. The British did not pay any attention to the education of women or promoting higher studies in science and technology. The vast masses remained illiterate while the spread of Education was limited to the middle and the upper-middle class.
