a. Earlier,the very idea of power sharing did not exist.

b. There were either monarchial or aristocratic regimes where power rested either with one individual or group of people, in order ensure quick decision making and effective enforcement.

c. Common people were not given active role in the politics, they remained passive citizens.

d. It was believed that power sharing delayed decision making.

e. We may give examples of, British Monarchy, French Monarchy of the 17th and 18th Century.

f. However, with the passage of time, with more countries becoming democratic, accepting it to be a popular government,The idea of power sharing came to be in sync and associated with modern democracies.

g. Since, Demos, implies people in Democracy, it was felt to People must rule themselves through various institutions, must participate in the governance of the country.

h. Thus, today with the acceptance and spread of democracy,People have become active citizens who participate in the political affairs .They elect their representatives, make popular demands etc.

i.. It was also felt that in order to make democracy more inclusive and representative , The idea of power sharing must exist in order to give due respect to diverse groups and to accommodate their interests.

j. Example of India, how power is not concentrated rather has been divided among different organs of government, levels, between various groups, parties etc.
