Effects of the Crusades. even though the crusades failed to imprison Jerusalem, they had quite a few major impacts on Western Europe. They augmented the authority of the king: from time to time nobles died in battle with no leaving an heir in which case the king got their land. Kings passed taxes to pay for the crusades
