If we talk about Europe, the medieval or middile ages were not liberal at all. The Churches, monarch and nobles controlled the society. There was complete absence of liberty, democracy , and human rights. Discrimination , casteism etc

were practiced. As soon as the Industrial revolution started in Europe , the whole system was modernised and people and the society became liberal. In case of India , the medieval age belonged to the Sultans and Mughals , until the comming of British rule in India. Hope this answer helps you bro.
