a.  In 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte crowned himself Emperor of France. He introduced the Civil Code of 1804 known as the Napoleonic Code  which did away with all privileges based on birth, established equality before the law and secured the right to property..
b.However, the French army which had conquered parts of Europe, was later seen with hostility in many areas conquered by them because of imposition of Censorship, increased taxation, forced conscription , lack of political freedom.
c. Napoleon had returned France to a monarchy, destroying Democracy.
d. Soon, his armies were regarded invading force, who sought to curtail freedom of the people.
e. He was finally defeated at Waterloo in 1815
