When the East India Company was appointed as the diwan of Bengal on 12 August, 1765 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam,it meant that the Company was given the right to collect and store revenue from the provinces of Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. It also meant that the Company would become the chief financial head of the province.
