Indus Valley Civilization:

• Indus Valley Civilization was one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

•This civilization was contemporary to civilizations like Chinese and Mesopotamian.

• Indus valley civilization was dated between 2500BC to 1600BC.

• Indus Valley Civilization is also known as "Bronze Civilization" and "Harappan Civilization".

• The first city to be excavated in this civilization was Harappa. Hence, it is named after that city.

• Indus Valley Civilization covered North West Frontier and states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, UP etc.

• Indus Valley Civilization was mostly excavated by the Archeological Survey of India.

Important Features of IVC:

Great Bath: Great Bath was one of the important features of this civilization. It was excavated in the city of Mohenjadaro. The purpose of this Great Bath was not mentioned. As, it was used for bathing or religious purposes.

Citadel: Citadal is another important feature which was situated in the end of the city. The purpose of this citadel was, the people stayed here during natural calamities.

It is the most striking feature of Harappan Civilization.

The Harappan City was divided into the upper town and the lower town.

Trade:

The Indus Valley economy was heavily based on trading.

It was one of the most important characteristics of this civilization.

Almost every aspect of their society, was to ensure that they could create high-quality and profitable trade products for the civilizations the Indus people traded with.

Occupation:

Agriculture was the main occupation of the Indus Valley people.
