It is called the Harappan civilization because the Harappan site was first to be discovered in 1921 at the modern site of harappa situated in the province of West Punjab in Pakistan.

Features of Indus valley Civilization:

Town planning:

The Town Planning System of Indus Valley Civilization was city based.

The drainage and sanitation systems were remarkable.

It is the most striking feature of Harappan Civilization.

The Harappan City was divided into the upper town and the lower town.

Trade:

The Indus Valley economy was heavily based on trading.

It was one of the most important characteristics of this civilization.

Almost every aspect of their society, was to ensure that they could create high-quality and profitable trade products for the civilizations the Indus people traded with.

Occupation:

Agriculture was the main occupation of the Indus Valley people.

Crops such as wheat, barley, peas and bananas were raised.
