Zitkala-sa had to suffer many indignities on account of belonging to marginalized community. She had been stared at; she had been thrown here and there like a puppet; her blanket and moccasins had been taken from her; she had to wear tight fitting clothes; and finally her hair was shingled. She felt she had lost her freedom. She wanted to go back to her mother.

Zikitala- sa belonged to a was a native american, which was one of the marginalized communities. As a member of a marginalized community she had to face lots of discrimination.

She was taken away forcibly from her mother when she was young. In the school of the whites she was forced to cut off her long hair. She also revolted in the way the she was being forced to wear the dress of the white americans.
