The noncooperative Movement failed due to the following reasons
- Gandhiji asked people to boycott foreign-made dresses and to use Khadi dresses.
- But khadi was more expensive and less durable than foreign-made clothes.
- It was not affordable for the poor sections of society.
- Boycotting English institutions was another problem.
- There was a lack of Indian Institutions.
- Teachers and students slowly returned to English government schools.
- Lawyers also went back to courts.
- People didn't understand the concept of fighting through Ahimsa.
- In the Chauri chiura incident 22 policemen were killed
- This made Gandhi withdraw from NCM

- Because of the violence that took place at Chauri Chaura the movement came to a halt and it didn't followed the path of non-violence which Gandhiji showed.
- Due to the boycott of the foreign good the elite business class of India didn't support the movement.
- The difference between the prices of khadi and foreign clothes was expensive. So, most of the people were not able to afford khadi.
- In Kerala communal riots took place as result many of the lives were lost.
- Let Independence even the status of a dominion state couldn't be achieved after the movement.
