Even though Law of Octaves explained about S block and P block elements, It couldn't explain the bonding of D block and F block elements,

Even there are exceptions to P block elements, like SF6, Where the law of Octaves is broken , but it is known Super octet,

Some molecules like BeCl2 and BF3 also don't follow Law of Octaves,

If you observe, The name indicates it's a Law not a Rule,

So there are exceptions,

Hope you understand ,

Have a great day !!

The law of octaves was only applicable till calcium
Not applicable to elements of higher atomic mass
position of hydrogen with fluorine and chlorine was not justified on the basis of chemical properties
placing two elements in same slot example cobalt and nickel
