Jai Andhra movt a 1972 "political movement" in support for the "creation of Andhra state" in the light of i"njustices" felt by the people of the Rayalaseema & Coastal Andhra Regions
Explanation:
- This was after the High court & Supreme Court had upheld the "Mulki rules" (that is, as per the rule any person who had "lived in Hyderabad for 15 years" was regarded a local, & was therefore eligible for certain govt. posts) in prevalence at the time. This dis-enfranchised a huge majority of the populace of the state from getting jobs in their state capital.
- "Prominent leaders" from "Coastal Andhra", prominent student leader from Andhra Pradesh University, & several others had participated in this agitation
- People from the areas of Andhra and Rayalaseema considered the laws of the Mulki unjust and had felt that they were "treated in their homelands as aliens." The agitators, mostly students, thought that the rules defined by Mulki were unjust, undesirable and because of which the rift between Telangana and other regions had become more serious. In view of the independent Telangana agitation, the advocates of a separate Andhra Pradesh saw their claim as rational.
- The movement was followed by the Telangana movement in 1969 (the development of the new Andhra Pradesh state). More than 400 lives were lost for the movement. One of the main views was that "Growth is only seen in and around Hyderabad and it is time for coastal districts to develop rapidly as well."
