Ahom belonged to the Shan tribe of southern China and South -East Asia .
they migrated into Brahmaputra valley
The main features of Ahom administration were as follows.
The head of the kingdom was a king, named Swargadeo.
He had to be from the same family of the first king Sukaphaa.
Sukaphaa had two Gohains to help him in the administrative process.
They were known as the Burhagohain and the Borgohain.
Both were given independent areas during the 1280s.
These were sovereigns in their given areas which were called rajya or bilat.
Pratap Singha further added two more offices, Borbarua and Borphukan.
Both of them were straight under the king.
The five defined positions made the patra mantris or we can also call them the council of ministers.
During the reign of Supimphaa from 1492 to 1497, one of these patra mantris were even elevated as the Rajmantri.
