The geopolitical concept of Lebensraum referred to living space for the population of Germany.

Its main features were as follows:

New territories had to be acquired for settlement.Acquisition of new territories would enhance the area of Germany and allow the settlers to retain cultural ties to their country.It would increase the material resources of Germany.This led to expansionist policies, particularly towards the east and annexation of Poland.
