Answer: Changes came in the overall social life in the Gupta period with the tremendous development of science during this period. With the growth and intensification in the arena of mathematics, astrology, astronomy, medicine, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Botany, Zoology and Engineering Gupta period gained a striking facet.The Guptas had strong central government, but they also allowed a certain degree of local government.

The king was the head of the administrative system.

The empire was divided into provinces or territorial divisions called Bhukti or Pradesh.Hinduism affected the social structure of the Gupta Empire. It divided the people into five classes called the Caste System. The highest were the priests/teachers, then the warriors, the merchants/artisans, unskilled workers and lastly, the untouchables.
