Answer:

Certain points which were proposed by Darwin are accepted. There are certain drawbacks in his original theory and the other scientists had certain objections regarding Darwin's theory.

The objections to Darwinism are as follows:

(i) Darwin could not explain the origin and cause of variations which are generated during evolution.

(ii) He emphasised the importance of the fittest organisms. Later, it has been suggested fit and fitter forms can also co-exist.

(iii) The principle of inheritance was not present during Darwin. Hence Darwin believed in the theory of 'pangenesis'. This theory explains that the organs give rise to a certain structure which moves to gonads for development.

Hope it helps :)

The main objections raised against the Darwin’s theory were as follows:

  • Darwin failed to explain mechanism of inheritance or mode of transmission of variations to next generation.
  • Occurrence of small variations in organs can be useful to the organisms only when these are fully developed and functional. But the inheritance of such organs in initial stage cannot be explained as they cannot be of any advantage.
  • The existence of vestigial organs cannot be explained because these are of no use to the possessor.
  • Overspecialization of some organs in certain animals beyond the stage of usefulness rather causing hindrance in daily life cannot be explained by natural selection.
  • Darwin had explained the survival of the fittest but did not explain the arrival of the fittest.
