This act was enacted in 1972, and was amended in 1991.
Under thus scheme,the first bio - reserve has been setup in the Nilgiris.
1. To conserve wildlife by providing a safe environment to them.
2.To safeguard the endangered species from becoming extinct.
3.To protect this precious heritage of our country.
4. To maintain the ecological balance.
