According to the Indian Forest Act of 1865 most of the basicmeans of livelihood of the forestdwelling tribes were banned by the British. The daily practices of villagers, such as cutting wood, grazing cattle, collecting fruits and roots, and fishing, werebanned and made illegal

Forest act 1865. this act divided the forests onto three catogories. reserved forests. these were the most productive forests and were reserved for colonial government only
