Thomas Hardy was born in June 2, 1840, in the village of Upper Bockhampton, located in Southwestern England.


Charles Dickens was born at Landport in Portsea on Friday, the 7th of February, 1812.

They both had contrasting philosophies such as

i) Dickens wrote about the devastating effects of industrialization and criticised the idea that human beings were treated as tools of industrial production.


(ii) Dickens raised his voice about the exploitation of children/ orphans in 'Oliver Twist'.


(iv) Thomas Hardy projected the advantages and disadvantages of the new order.
