What were the major political ,economic and social developments in the world which motivated the anti colonial in india?
Answers
Various revolutions and rebellions in different parts of the globe motivated Indians to strive for the cause of freeing India from the yoke of British oppression. The influence of world events extends as far back as Tipu Sultan’s time, when he was inspired by the ideals of the French Revolution to fight against British forces in India. Later, the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and the American Revolution inspired Indians to fight off imperial and colonial forces, and nurtured in Indians a belief that they could also fight like their ideological compatriots in Russia and USA.
The educated middle-classes spearheaded and supported social reform movements that fostered nationalism in India, which later assumed an anti-colonial form. The economic drain of resources by the British and their oppression of the Indians also united them against the colonialist forces.
The Indian nationalist struggle received an impetus post-World War II which marked the emergence of a new world order. The world at large was disillusioned with imperialism and colonialism, and colonies all around the globe were calling for freedom. Great Britain was cornered by USA and other nations into ending colonialism. As part of the Allied powers who won the World War-II, Indians also expected to be treated as a sovereign nation and ally.
