Answers
The 2006 Democracy Movement in Nepal, also known as the Loktantrik Andolan refers to the agitation against the rule of the then King of Nepal, King Gyanendra.
The main step of this movement was that King Gyanendra called the Seven Party Alliance and reinstated the old Nepal House of Representatives to take up the responsibility of safeguarding the unity and peace in the country through multi-party democracy.
Although it was decided that Girija Prasad Koirala would head the government, the move by rejected by Maoists and they fought against the government forces as they demanded the abolition of monarchy and to establish a Constituent Assembly.
After many talks and demands, the Maoists accepted the democratic process of elections to the Constituent Assembly.
After the elections, 4 ministers from the royalist government were arrested for violating human rights during the General Strike.
Taxes were levied on the royal family and its assets.
Royal references with the government titles and the army were eliminated.
Nepal was declared a secular country and not a Hindu kingdom.
