European artists who came to India brought new style of paintings to India, that helped in shaping western perception of India.They were :

a. European artists brought with them the idea of realism.

b. They brought with them the technique of oil painting.

c. They brought in  the major traditions of paintings : landscape paintings, portrait paintings and engravings.

d. These paintings depicted the power of the British rule that sought to modernize and civilize India's decaying culture.

e.The new style of portraiture also served as an ideal means of displaying the lavish lifestyles, wealth and status that the empire generated

f. These new style of paintings depicted the superiority of the British and showed Indians in a submissive position.
