Answer:

I can't say much about political causes of the revolt of 1857 as broadly each and every action and incident are inter related eventually responsible for the Uprising of 1857.

I will try to give the gist of events responsible :

1) Lack of trust on Indian doldiets serving under British command by British officers citing - 15th Bengal Native Infantry.

2) Looking down upon Indians as slaves and equivalent to dogs by British officers.

3) Denying Indian scholars of Govt jobs based on their nationality.

4) Britishers making fun of Indian festivals, cultures and traditions.

5) Misbehaving with Indians at public places by influential British High command officers.

6) Forceful conversion of Hindus and Muslims to Christianity by means of torture, force and greed.

7) Mockery of Indian rulers and monarchs by the British administration.

8) Exploitation of Indian resources by Britishers.

9) Depriving rich Indians of their wealth and properties.

10) Imposing of taxes in a way so as to affect the Indian businesses and economy negatively.

11) Last but not the least, A final nail in the coffin was the use of fatty cartridges which were made up of pig and cow meat.

all these factors in unison worked so as to build up the platform for the unleashing of the Great Indian War of Independence- The Revolt/ The Uprising of the 1857 which started before the set date in Meerut cantonment.

I hope I have covered up the main points so as to get a glimpse of what happened and why !!...
