Mexico holds elections every six years to elect its president .The country has never been under a military or dictators rule.But , until the year 2000 every elections were won by INSTITUTIONAL REVOLUTIONARY PARTY (PRI).
Opposition party did contest but they never managed to win since PRI used many dirty tricks to win the elections.
- All the government employs had to attend part meetings
- Media criticized the opposition party and focused less on their activities
- Teachers forced parents to vote for PRI
- PRI spent large sums of money in the campaign for its candidates
- The polling booths were shifted in the last minute which made it difficult for people to vote
