What were the problems with sepoys in british period?
Answers
There were many problems with the sepoys. Some of them are :
1 lower salaries : their salaries were inadequate to support their families.
2 bleak chances of promotion:
All the higher posts were reserved for British sepoys irrespective of their performance. Whereas the Indian soldiers could not rise above the post of subedar.
3 General Service Enlistment Act:the British government passed the General Service Enlistment Act. According to which they could be sent overseas on duty whereas Brahman considered crossing the seas as a taboo their religion.
4 deprivation of allowances : the sepoys wee required to serve in areas away from their homes without additional bhatta . The Post Office Act of 1854 withdrew the privilege of free postage enjoyed by the sepoys
Hope it helps
