what were the reason for the defeat of Indian rulers and princes in the hand of the British? how did this affect the socio-economic milieu of the Indian sub-continent ?

There were many reasons for the defeat of Indian rulers:

1. There was no unity among the Princes which led to frequent wars among them.the British took the advantage of this.

2. Policies introduced by the British in india such as Doctrine of Lapse, subsidiary alliance which made them capture the indian states

3. Superiority amongst all the colonial powers, capturing the trade route , having power over all the companies trading in india such as Dutch East India company , Portuguese and French East India Company.
