The reasons behind the Civil war was--

▪in 1956 the Sinhala government passed laws making Sinhala the only official language thus disregarding the Tamils

▪TheSinhala gob followed preferential policies that preferred Sinhala students for university positions and government jobs.

▪This created a feeling of alienation among the Tamils which resulted in Civil war
