The most recent reasons for the conflict between the East India Company and the Nawab of Bengal lie in the fact that the victory of Britishers in the Carnatic war proved them powerful and now they wanted to occupy Bengal through the subjugation of the Nawab and other European companies. Siraj-Ud-Dualah came to know about this conspiracy and that the Britishers gave shelter to one of the agents of Ghasiti Begum,(with whom Britishers were conspiring). This obviously infuriated the Nawab against English. Also, The Black Hole Tragedy in which around 123 prisoners died out caused a more conflicted situation between the East India Company and the Nawab of Bengal.

1) The conflict between the Bengal Nawabs and the East India Company started when the Nawabs refused to grant the Company concessions and demanded large tributes for the Company’s right to trade.

2) The Nawabs also denied the Company any right to mint coins, and stopped it from extending its fortifications. The Bengal Nawabs accused the Company of deceit, and claimed that the Company was depriving the Bengal government of huge amounts of revenue and undermining the authority of the Nawabs and disrespecting them.

3) The Company also had its grievances against the Nawabs. It felt that the demands of the Nawabs were unfair and that their trade could flourish only if the duties were removed.

4) The company wanted to enlarge its fortification and build forts. All this led to conflicts between the Bengal Nawabs and the Company.
