1) Novels allowed women to have a new perception of being women. Novels drew them away from their harsh environment and allowed them to imagine women in a different light.
2) Novels also gave women the opportunity to peep into the minds of fictional liberal women and they were able to relate or rather imagine would have been in such a life. The novels talked about women who were free to choose their own destiny and life's path.
3) The stories were captivating enough to keep them entertained and to draw them away from their monotonous lives of being just housewives.
