according to the act, sinhala was declared the only national language of sri lanka. then the tamil people felt alienated as tyheir language including their culture was being ignored by the sri lankan governemnt. when the government passed orders that the sinhalese applicants would be favoured too, the tamil people could not control their anger and a civil war started in the country. tamil people demanded a seperate state in the north eastern part of sri lanka. they forme the LTTE [liberation of tamil tigers eelam]. many people died and LTTE was declared as a terrorist group. it became the only terrorist group to assasinate 2 world leaders [ president of sri lanka and rajiv gandhi]
