Reason given by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India,

Bengal is a huge province to be managed by one government, so, partition has to be made for the ease of governance.

Actual Reasons

Bengal was the nerve centre of Nationalism.

Partition was intended to curb Bengali influence by placing them into 2 administrations.
