Answer:

Canals are artificial waterways which are made for navigation or irrigation. A huge amount of investment is needed for the construction of canals. A lot of money has to be spent to maintain them. So canal transport is quite expensive.

Advantages of canal transport:

1. It helps to connect two regions and increase trade between them.

2. It helps people to travel from one place to the other.

Advantages of Railway transport:

1. It is more economical.

2. It is very suitable for carrying bulky and heavy goods to far off places.

3. It is quicker compared to the canal transport where the boats move slowly.

4. It is more safe and dependable as it is not affected much by the weather conditions whereas a canal can get flooded or freeze when the temperature is very low.

5. It is more organized than other forms of transport. Its routes and schedules are fixed and regular.

6. It has more capacity. The number of wagons can be increased or reduced according to the need.
