The question is related to 'Indigo Rebellion'

The Indigo Revolt ,1859-60, began in Eastern Part of Bengal. Indigo had very bad effect on the soil fertility. Since it was used to prepare blue-dye and was in great demand in England the farmers were forced to grow it.

It was the result of the explanation of farmers by the British. Under Ryoti system, the planters forced the ryots or peasants to sign an agreement, so that they could get loans or advances from planters to grow Indigo. Soon the indigo cultivators were trapped in debts.

In March 1859, thousands of Ryots in Bengal refused to grow indigo.

Biswas Brothers of Nadia were the first to refuse to grow indigo. Other important leaders included Kader Molla of Pabna, Rafique Mondal of Maida etc.

The revolt aroused the feeling of nationalism in Indian maaaes and made them become more opposed to the Bristish rule in India.
