hey dude,

The Revolt of 1857 is called the First War Of Independence. It started as a small sepoy mutiny but later took form of a rebellion as many nawabs and rulers joined the movement. The East India Company was successful in repressing the revolt. Hundreds of sepoys, rebels, nawabs and rajas were killed, tried or hanged.

The results of the revolt of 1857 also known as SEPOY MUTINY are:-

1)The British Parliament passed the "Government of India Act" on 2nd August,1858.
2)This Act enacted the British Government to rule India directly.
3)This Act empowered the British to appoint the Viceroy and Provincial Heads (Governors).
4)The British also showed generosity towards the native kings and rulers by promising not to expand their empire in India and abandon 'Doctrine of Lapse'.
5)Modernization in Indian society started after the Sepoy Mutiny.
