Similarities:

In their labors to unify Germany and Italy, Bismarck and Cavour equally hired Realpolitik. This was a political tactic reflected by the employment of practical, even when immoral and deceitful diplomatic and warring tactics to attain goals of national interest, such as unification.

Differences:

• Garibaldi was born to a family of fishermen in the year 1807, and for the first part of his life he was a seaman in Genoa.  

• Otto von Bismarck was native to the nobility in Prussia, in 1815. He studied law in the University of Gottingen, but showed a poor student and spent most of his time gathering with his aristocratic community.
