Socioeconomic status and Political conditions in Russia before 1905:-

Socioeconomic conditions of Russia:-

Social inequality was very prominent among the working class.

Economically, Russia was going through a very difficult period.

The population had doubled and the economic conditions turned from bad to worse.

Most people were agriculturists.

Industries were found in pockets and craftsmen undertook much of the production.

Most industries were the private properties of industrialists.

Workers were divided on the basis of their occupation and skills.

Women made up 31 % of the factory labour, however they were paid less than men.

Like workers, peasants too were divided.

Political conditions of Russia:-

Russia at the time of the revolution was under the autocratic rule of Tsar Nicholas II who believed in the Divine Rights of the Kings, a system of governance where it was unsuited to the needs of the modern times.

The Russian Empire was vast and feudal.

The bureaucracy was top heavy, inefficient and recruited from the privileged classes rather than on the basis of merit and ability.

The Russian Tsars had built a vast empire by conquest of various nationalists. They were subjected to the Russian culture and languages.

The Tsar showed a little concern to their sensitivities.
