In the ancient world, long and well maintained roads were hard to find but any ruler with a vision would try to establish good links with other countries, the basis of which was to make at least 1 good, clean, well maintained and safe passageway.
Land routes to and from Ancient India contributed to increased Trade with Persians, Arabs and beyond. Since better routes meant easier travel and transportation of goods. However, along with this, there was also a great exchange of scientific knowledge that took place as Persians, Chinese and Indians learned from one another including paper making, gunpowder and the Indian number spreading to Arab lands.
Apart from that there was also a huge influx of other cultures and languages, the main reason why some foods, words and buildings are so similar between India and Persia and Arabs, since centuries of connections left permanent prints of all cultures.
