Three principles of Guru Nanak formed the essence of life:

Guru Nanak was the founder and first Guru of Sikhism, formalized three primary guidelines/principles for Sikhs, which were

  • 'Naam Japna' (focus of God),
  • 'Kirat Karni' (honest living) and
  • 'Vand Chakna' (sharing with others).

With these three values, Guru Nanak knew any person would attain spiritual elevation as well as material happiness.

EXPLANATION:

  • 'Naam Japna': The 'Gurus Nanak' led the Sikhs directly to practice meditation on God by way of reciting, singing, chanting, and relentless remembrance followed by profound study and understanding of God’s name and virtues. Sikhs are to subliminally practice and remain focused on the right path all through their life. Various ways were gifted to the Sikhs to remember and tread on this 'path of righteousness'.
  • Kirat Karni: 'Guru Nanak' wanted Sikhs to live as honorable people and practice 'Kirat Karni': to honestly earn by one's mental and physical effort at the same time as accepting pains as well as pleasures as God’s blessings and gifts. One must remain truthful always and fear none accepting the ‘Eternal Super Soul’. They must live a life based on civility submerged in Dharam, that is, life controlled by moral, spiritual, and social values.
  • Vand Chakna: 'Sikhs' were asked to share their 'wealth within the community' by practicing 'Vand Chakna', that is, share and use together. The Sadh Sangat and community is a significant part of Sikhism. One must be part of a community that is pursuing impeccable objective values established by the Sikh Gurus and each Sikh must contribute in whatsoever way thinkable to the common community pool.
