what were the various steps involved in the implementation of reservation in India.
Answers
National commission of India looks after the process of investigation and monitoring whether reservation is indeed required for a particular group. They will look into any complaint and also advise and prepare report on the planning process of implementation along with recommendations, if any.
Then the commission needs to submit the report to the president and also to both houses of the parliament. The powers of commission end here, now it’s up to the houses to debate and consider the need for implementation.
Answer:
The system of reservation in India is designed to promote, or provide opportunities to the various legislatures, to government jobs, and to enrollment in higher educational institutions, and can be regarded as a type of affirmative action policy. The reservation nourishes the historically disadvantaged castes and tribes, listed as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes by the Government of India, also those designated as Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) and also the economically backward general. It is intended to realise the promise of equality enshrined in the Constitution.
The Constitution prohibits untouchability and obligates the state to make special provision for the betterment of the SCs and STs. Over the years, the quota categories have been expanded beyond those to the OBCs.
Reservation is governed by the Constitution, statutory laws and local rules and regulations. The SCs, STs and OBCs, and in some states Backward Classes among Muslims under a category called BC(M), are the primary beneficiaries of the reservation policies.
