Besides being a great conqueror and administrator, Chandragupta Maurya was a generous king. Welfare measure was the principle of his administration. Chandragupta Maurya took the following welfare measures for his subjects :

He started various public works like canals etc for the welfare of peasants.

He constructed “Sudarshan Lake” for watering the agricultural land.

Roads were built for the welfare of people.

Subsistence allowances to the wives and children of deceased officers.

Pensions and other facilities to the unemployed, widows, destitute, orphans etc.
