HYV seeds have the following disadvantages-
1. They require excessive irrigation. India being a land where the farmers are mostly dependent on rainfall for irrigation, the poor farmers merely use them.
2. Using HYV seeds requires excess use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, This makes the crop yield polluted. Also, the soil gets depleted.
