Hey dear I m explaining u whole experiment step by step :-
1) at first scratch the magnesium ribbon so that it's protective layer of magnesium dioxide will be removed.
2) Now burn the magnesium ribbon carefully.
After some time u will see magnesium ribbon burns with white glittering light.
its chemical reaction is as follows :-
2Mg + O2 ==》2MgO
