Answer:

Protest against the British

During the period of Non- cooperation which was decided by the Congress Session held at Kolkata in 1920 , A khilafat committee was formed under the leadership of Ali brothers , Moulana Muhammad Ali and Moulana Shaukat Ali who were intensified the khilafat movement . The declared khilafat movement as a part of the Indian National Movement , with the help of Gandhiji they ensured active participation of Muslims in the freedom struggle along with the Hindu community. Gandhiji and khilafat leaders travelled across India and propagated their demands and ideologies

  1. Anti- British feeling spread to the nook and corner of the nation.
  2. Intensify Hindu - Muslim unity.

The reasons for the khilafat movement was that Britain tried to limit the power of Khalifa , the Ottoman- Turkish ruler and spiritual leader of world Muslims . This lead to the world wide protest of the Muslims against Britain. Britain occupied the Ottoman region along with Egypt under the British mandate( after the first world war Ottoman Empire was in the alley of the losers(Triple Alliance)) thus the khalifa's power became limited.
