Firstly You should know the steps involved:

STEPS:
1.Number the carbon in such a way that, the functional group gets the least number and it should be the largest carbon chain.

Hence we start numbering the carbon atom from OCH₃(functional group) to CH₃,which is also the largest chain.
         CH₃
             |
⁴CH₃---C³---C²---OC¹H₃
             |     ||
CH₃   O                 [the superscript shows how the carbon should be numbered.]

2. Identfy the functional group,Here it is COOR,  where R= CH3
The suffix name for COOR is -oate

3.The maximum number of carbon in the longest chain is 4, parent name of 4 C structure is Butane.

4.  Identify the branched compounds (everything attached to the numbered carbon), mark its position according to the number of carbon it is branched to.
Here we have two methyl groups attached to 3rd carbon.

5.if there are two same compound, add di , or tri if there are three same compounds in the prefix.

FINALLY WE HAVE OUR IUPAC NAME:

                               3,3 dimethyl-2-butanoate

NOTE:
1.While numbering the carbon, the carbon in functional group should also be included.

vishagh: comment in case of any doubt :)
classyprincess51: should'nt it be methyl-2,2dimethyl propanoate?
vishagh: Nope u should select a complete chain, the longest one
classyprincess51: okay thanks alot
vishagh: And numbering should be done from the functional group,!!!
vishagh: HOpe it. Helps
