Hello, Jalesa
Let's see what we have her.
1) we have an area of a triangle that is 90cm^2.
2) the altitude, or height, is h= 2b+2, where h is the height
3) b= base
So, we know that the area of a triangle is a=1/2 (bh)
90= .5(b) (2b+2) Substituting the values of a, b and h.
90= .5 b( 2b+2) Multiplying
90= b^2+b Using the Distributive Formula
0= b^2+b-90 Subtracting 90 from both sides
0= (b+10) (b-9) Factoring
b= -10 0r b= 9, b= -10 does not make sense since dimensions CANNOT be negative.
So, we must use b=9. If the base is 9, the height must be 20, since the problem states that h=2b+2, or 18+2= 20
