Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Principal amount, P = Rs. 1200.

         Number of years, t = 1 year.

         Rate of interest, r = 40%,  compounded quarterly.

To find : The total amount , A.

Solution :

Compound interest is the addition of interest paid on the principal amount of a loan or a deposit.

A =  P( 1 + r/n   )^{nt}, A = total amount,

                            P = Principal amount,

                            r = rate of interest,

                           n = number of times interest paid,

since interest is compounded quarterly, n= 4 times a year(i.e., interest paid after every three months).

Now,  A = P (1 + \frac{40/100}{4} )^{4 * 1}

              = 1200( 1 +\frac{40 *}{100}\frac{1}{4} ) ^{4}

            = 1200( 1 + \frac{1}{10} )^{4}

             = 1200( \frac{10 + 1}{10} )^{4}

             = 1200 ( \frac{11}{10}) ^{4}

            = 1200 ( 1.1)^{4}

           = 1200 * 1.4641

          =Rs. 1756.92

Therefore the total amount  A = Rs. 1756.92
